A simple reminder to manage negative, persistent thoughts

Have you ever woken up and the very first thoughts running through your mind is a laundry list of everything undone or unresolved in your life? I need to do this, I’m worried about that, how will I ever fix such and such! The tape plays over and over until you just want to scream — stop!

Here’s a quick and effective phrase to interrupt a negative, persistent thought cycle:

Bevin, just be here today.

Better yet, just be here right now.

Be fully present to what’s happening at this moment.

Only concentrate on the one thing that I can actually accomplish right now.

It’s not that all those other concerns are completely gone, however I’m acknowledging I can only focus on one thing at a time. And, if I choose the most important task first, everything else will gradually flow out from there.

Ironically, some of the laundry list will become less urgent because as you focus on each moment, your priorities begin to shift.

The phrase, just be here right now, helps me remember that spiritual connection is the centerpiece of my life. Which is very different than concentrating on a list of to-dos, to-haves or to-fixes. Once I make that connection with my inner higher being, everything else fades back or gradually becomes clear.

How each of us make a connection to our Divine Self will vary. For me, it’s writing, walking in the forest or dancing to a favorite song. It may look different for you.

Regardless, one of the best ways to manage persistent and negative thought patterns is to remind yourself to be right here, right now.

Come forward from the past, step back from the future and be present in this very moment.

Do one thing that grounds you, brings you back into yourself. Everything else will wait or better yet, fade away.

Like any tool, this requires practice. As soon as you feel your mind winding up, running that movie reel over and over, speak it out.

Just be here right now.

Then observe how things change from the inside out.

This is just one of the many tools and practices I offer in my new online course called Perceptive Souls: From Surviving to Thriving, which launches in January 2019. I’m inviting 100 empaths and HSPs to beta-test this first round, in appreciation of your feedforward to help me improve, you receive a reduced course fee.
