As a person who pursued an entire degree in the Humanities, I can relate to the monotony of having to memorize war after war, dates and other useless information. What I enjoyed the most is when we would have discussions about how human culture, technology, religion, political movements, art and literature all reflected each other during the same time periods. How we can learn from past patterns. One of the messages I received from society in general was that pursuing a STEM career was ‘legitimate and important’ work and to do something in the humanities was for lazy and impractical people. I’m glad I didn’t listen:)
