As much as I hear your utter exhaustion and desire for white allies to ‘convert’ others, I can tell you it’s often not going to happen. Not because we don’t care or because we don’t try. It’s simply because grown adults are going to make up their minds for themselves.

There is nothing magical I can say to a white Trump supporter to make them change their mind. I had countless social media debates over the past few months with my former co-workers ad high school classmates, some of which turned very nasty and some where they listened to me, but no one’s opinion was shifting. They thought I was wrong for supporting Biden and I thought they were wrong for supporting Trump. Didn’t matter how many times we pushed our opinions out there, stalemate.

Because of the color of my skin, I have more privilege and am absolutely responsible to use my voice and platforms to try to shift hearts and minds. It can absolutely happen with people who haven’t voted before, who are questioning, or are on the fence, undecided.

But unfortunately, people are going to vote how they want, just the same as I do. I can’t make anyone do anything against their free will.

I’m so sorry our society is still this way for you, for people of color and all marginalized groups, we will keep fighting to turn the tide, wherever we can…
