Democrats missed a huge opportunity in last night’s debate

To role model a different kind of leadership

As the race for the President of the United States heats up, I’ve been tuning in to watch the debates. Listening, watching body language, observing how they relate to their colleagues. Allowing them to inform who I will give the gift of my vote in a few weeks. Yes, every vote is a gift.

I was disappointed by last night’s debate. I understand the stakes are high and super Tuesday is right around the corner. I also know they are coached to ‘play the game’.

They’re told to drag their opponent’s skeletons out of the closet, put them on display for all to see. Cast doubt on everything from their integrity to their health, to their motivations.

Making someone else look bad helps you look better. Time to take off the kid gloves and pull out every weapon in your arsenal. I know it feels kind of icky, but we can justify because this is what is takes to win.

And herein lies the huge opportunity they all missed.

Our sitting President demonstrates a dysfunctional type of leadership that’s all about taking power over others, at any cost. He uses bullying, personal attacks, and intimidation as the tools of his trade. He treats others as an object, to be used…
