Empowerment is NOT about Ignoring Your Sensitive Nervous System

Most empaths have been doing that for too long

Recently, I’ve read multiple articles and email sales pitches which included some version of just because you have a highly sensitive nervous system, doesn’t mean you can’t do X, Y, or Z.

On the surface, this message seems lovely and empowering. It also touches upon one of the deepest wounds for empaths and HSPs: why do I have to be different than everyone else? Why can’t I handle as much as less sensitive people? I hate being drained and overwhelmed, isn’t there a way to shut these abilities off?

I’ve asked many of these questions myself.

I tried to ‘keep up’ with the brutal pace of modern society.

I attempted to ‘have it all’, the way our media and culture defines ‘all’. But no longer.

I believe true empowerment for empathic, intuitive people is to fully face that our nervous system interacts with the world differently. Period, point blank. When I’m in a noisy, busy restaurant, it’s only a matter of time before I become drained. Not if I become drained, but how long until I become drained.

As an entrepreneur, if I hustle like all the shiny Facebook ads advise, I will experience burnout. It’s inevitable.
