Except that people of color make up about 40% of all American citizens and are expected to exceed white Americans in about 20 years. Our U.S. population has long been diverse, however white people had generally made stuff for white people, men had generally made stuff for men. It is more recent that marginalized populations who've been talking about this for a long time, actually received consideration from the dominant white, male culture.
