They’ll either have to downsize to buy something else outright, or pay rent like I do. I just went through this with my grandmother, who had to move into assisted living and sell her home of 35 years. She’s now spent half of that money paying rent at a nursing home facility because of her health care needs. It’s great that she had it, but she’s not rolling around in that extra money, she’s spending it every month still for living expenses. Someone could invest wisely and have the same nest egg, but from a different source…
