For those who are getting out their popcorn, I would state that anti-racism is not a spectator sport, oh let’s grab some popcorn and watch these crazy debates, but by all means, sit on the sidelines and don’t stand for anything. For black people, Juneteenth is not a funny online debate, it’s just one more step our country must take to acknowledge the atrocities that were committed and to make things right for black descendants, many of whom are still experiencing daily micro and macro aggressions. And for the person who asked if we need to have a Native American Day, the answer is yes, but just like this commemoration, not for tokenism, but acknowledgement and healing.
