Freedom, what is it really and how do you get there?
When the word freedom arose multiple times this week, I knew it was time to explore this particular energy.
But before we dive into freedom, what it is and how to find it — I believe we need to explore captivity first. To really get clear on what we don’t want, or what’s holding us back.
I’m classically trained as an visual artist and recently, a pastel drawing I created over twenty years ago was calling out to be displayed again.
I shared it with a colleague, who had a very strong reaction. He told me, ‘It’s powerful, but perhaps not something you want to put on the front of a book. People are looking for a more positive outcome, they want hope.’
He’s right, everyone is looking for hope.
A way to break free from our inner and outer restraints. However, in my experience, that can’t truly happen until we’re fully willing to look at the cage around us.
Several years ago, I briefly studied the basic tenants of Buddhism. Starting with precept #1, I was immediately angry. All of life is suffering? What? How’s that supposed to inspire people? What a negative viewpoint!
