How to handle empath ‘deniers’
Debunking 5 myths about perceptive souls
Throughout my life, there’ve been countless times I’ve run across what I call empath ‘deniers’ and another one popped up on my social media feed this week. They are adamant that being an empath is simply a fantasy concept we’re making up.
Here are some things empath deniers might tell you, along with my response (aka, reality check):
Myth #1:
Empaths want to feel superior to others, so we latched on to the idea of having special abilities.
Reality check:
What? Many empaths, until they learn to master their natural abilities and fully accept their sensitivity, tend to make themselves small, shut down their voices and use people-pleasing strategies to ‘fit in’. An untrained empath is often humble to a fault.
As an empath becomes empowered, these contractive habits fall away and we learn to hold our space and our presence assertively. If someone knew an empath pre-empowerment, then watched them transform, they may become critical when we decide to take our rightful space like everyone else.
Myth #2:
Empaths are covert narcissists.
