I am disappointed that this whole article didn’t focus on the first and most important issue, that as a woman on any social media platform, we feel unsafe.
Because every female entrepreneur has to sift through messages from men showing up in sleazy, manipulative and sometimes dangerous ways. We might receive hundreds of these requests in a week, it’s exhausting and disheartening.
If you went to a workplace every single day that was that toxic and unsafe (social media platforms are a part of an entrepreneur’s workplace) and then be expected to ‘shake it off’ and keep performing, you would feel like your friend too. Exhausted, mistrustful and calling it in, not to mention the PTSD from the pandemic and current economic pressures.
Instead of taking time to write this article (which you will then make revenue from on Medium) to ‘solve’ all of her problems and mindset issues, may I suggest gathering 1000 of your professional male colleagues and petition LinkedIn to change their platform to reduce or eliminate inappropriate solicitations.
