I don’t believe it was because your friend was being ‘too nice’, I believe it’s because her life experiences with men in particular taught her that she didn’t deserve to speak up or to be protected. Women don’t hesitate in reporting because they are too nice, it’s because they grew up with codependency as a relationship model, where they were expected to overlook and excuse hateful or even violent behavior from men as ‘normal’. It takes a lot of therapeutic support to recognize this old cycle and transform it, where you won’t take bullshit any more.
