I just finished helping my grandmother navigate the Great Slide, 4 1/2 years of impossible decisions, resistance, always on call as she devolved into dementia. It is horrifying to watch your loved one go down this way, but on the other hand, I’m glad that I was there for her, along with the myriad of dedicated people who support our elders in the nursing home and hospice system.
