I loved your article, especially since my brother was diagnosed thirty years ago with Aspergers and I didn’t understand the history behind the label. I sincerely hope in the future, we will recognized that everyone is neurodiverse, there is no such thing as neurotypical.

Each person’s brain functions differently and what they need to thrive is personal (although there are common patterns that help practitioners to provide support).

Why I highlighted this portion of the article is two-fold. One, I don’t think anyone should be ostracized for the biological wiring of their brain.

Second, because I’ve personally engaged with members of my family that at least exhibit most of the symptoms of borderline personality disorder and narcissism, how they interact was often very destructive and harmful to others.

One could state that they can’t help themselves or that there are treatments available but at least in my experience, they don’t seek treatment and many don’t believe anything is wrong with them.

I hold compassion for their mental illness which is often catalyze by trauma, but I will also keep my distance for peace of mind and my own well-being. I also very publicly and strongly spoke out when a narcissist was actively seeking a second term as the American president.

If you tell victims of narcissistic abuse they shouldn’t speak out against or judge narcissistic behavior as wrong, you are going to have a tough hill to climb…
