I think these are positive changes and I appreciate the heads up, as I did not receive the policy change email, even after being an active writer for five years.
One caveat to your analysis, there are some amazing writers, including myself, on medium who do not rake in the big bucks every month. I think the most I’ve made in a month is $52, usually it’s around $20. That doesn’t bother me, as I write for a very niche audience (empaths and highly sensitive people), it’s likely many of my posts won’t be curated for the home page.
I don’t make money on Medium, but it dramatically increases my SEO and my reputation as a thought leader in my field, which leads people to my online community and then to become paying clients.
I use my writings on Medium as content for my weekly newsletter, social media posts and have even recorded some of it as teachings on my YouTube channel. I’m also compiling a series of my articles for my book that will be published by November.
You can be an exceptional writer and still not be working to monetize your Medium account, but instead using your writing in a variety of ways to expand your sacred work…
