I think we are assuming that the content creators who make the most money are the most talented, but that’s not generally the case. They might be the most divisive, controversial, or the first one to do something that catches on, but often the most ‘popular’ content is superficial and overproduced to play upon people’s psychological issues, just like the most ‘popular’ music is often trite and curated. Who is a popular creator is a direct reflection of the sophistication, or lack thereof, of their audience. If we demanded more, content creators would have to raise their standards…
