I’ve been writing on Medium for over five years, around three posts a week and the most I’ve grossed in a month is about $30. Part of it is I write foe a very specific audience and part of it is I don’t want to be dependent upon another platform to ensure I make a living - which is the same power dynamic as working as an employee. I’ve enjoyed every minute of the writing process, I see Medium as the place I get to try out my ideas, then take the best blog posts and publish them in a book to earn revenue. If you’re only focused on making money, your audience will know, the writing has to come from the heart, has to touch people personally. Trying to game the system is too obvious. Plus, if you know that our modern society’s hyper focus on money is unhealthy, the change begins with you first….
