I've spent the last day contemplating why a complete stranger would decide to write personal attacks about someone they don't even know, to insult someone else's business, especially when I did not come with a personal attack towards you. My first reaction was to lash back, but there's entirely too much of that online already. The only answer I could come up with, was fear. The world is changing rapidly and dramatically and none of us know what's going to happen next. The coronavirus, the pandemic, economic and political changes have been coming one after another in the past eighteen months. As a result, our entire world has some form of post-traumatic stress, which often leads us to do and say things we normally wouldn't. Plus, being online gives a level of anonymity, prompts people to say things they normally wouldn't say to a person's face. Perhaps I hold some political and economic beliefs that may be different than yours. But I don't see you as the enemy, simply a person with a different perspective. If more people could learn to honor differing viewpoints without trying to change each others minds or make someone else wrong - we might actually be able to move forward, find common ground. Yes, our governments are responsible for many things, but it also falls to individual citizens to be willing to bridge. So, even though the way you wrote to me was difficult, I am not going to do the same to you. I believe in the power of choice, especially to choose who I want to be and to not spiral down into negativity, blame and anger when there's a disagreement. It's your invitation too...
