Losing everything to gain even more

There are times in our lives when the amount of loss we experience reaches epic proportions. I call these periods a ‘Great Adjustment.’

When almost everything you know gets stripped away, bit by bit. The first loss hits you hard, the second, third and fourth break you into pieces. The fifth invites you into a space of deep acceptance, the embodied realization that nothing in the physical realm is secure, we can’t hold on forever.

Everything has its season.

One of the key lessons our souls came here to master, is the art of letting go. During our lifetimes, we’ll be asked to release family, friends, romantic partners, jobs, our bodies, our possessions, and our sense of identity.

Who we know ourselves to be, is constantly dying.

Some call it ego death. A long, drawn-out process, during which we grasp on to familiar self-concepts, until life circumstances force us to peel back another layer, then another and one more. Sometimes, we feel lost. So much has dissolved, we’re not even certain who we are anymore.

How much can we let go?

Every person will face the ‘Great Release.’

Everything we navigate prior, is simply a dress rehearsal.
