My body hurts because my upstairs neighbors keep arguing
Most days, I love being an intuitive empath. The ability to sense the world in such an open way truly feels like a gift. Yet, there are downsides.
Especially for those who not only feel other people’s emotions like their own but whose bodies absorb when others are in pain and suffering. Otherwise known as being a physical empath.
I live in a ground floor apartment in an idyllic setting. All my windows look out into the adjacent nature preserve, I watch the changing light as it moves through the nearby forest.
I witness a plethora of animal life, including hawks, bobcats, red-headed woodpeckers, a large band of crows and the comical squirrel who climbs the pole every day to rob my birdfeeder. Often in the evenings, I can hear a pack of coyotes raising their voices in unison.
It’s a nurturing space that allows me to focus, create, coach, teach, write and care for myself as a sensitive person.
Recently, however, the peace has been disturbed by the rocky relationship of my upstairs neighbors. Someone new moved in and then the arguments began — usually at 6 AM.
To be awoken at such an early hour by loud voices, accusations and heavy footsteps on what is their floor (and my ceiling) would be rough for anyone. Yet for an empath…
