My partner and I just celebrated our first year together, he is Mexican-American and I am white, with 50% Irish heritage. We both wondered how our partnership would be perceived (we also have a 20 year age gap), but both of our families and our friends have been very supportive. We had one argument that we would ascribe to cultural differences, but we listened and worked through it. I am working to learn Spanish, as many in his family are bi-lingual and I would like to honor their culture by being able to effectively communicate. He is my best friend and the most amazing man I’ve ever met, any differences we navigate are well worth it!
