OMG, as a writer who’s been on Medium for almost six years, if I had to do this when I joined, I never would have.

Which means I wouldn’t have published over 400 posts, learning as I went, getting better at honing my voice, and learning how to edit. I also would not have had the confidence to publish my first book this year. Something like this would turn off people who want to write, but never have, then never will.

You may not realize it, as a writer with 60 published books, but this post reeks of superiority. I understand your frustration, but more rules won’t deter the small number of people who always skirt the rules. Ignore them!

I’m glad you are successful and experienced at your craft, but you’ve forgotten what it’s like to be a novice. Make room for everyone, not just the polished writers, everyone starts somewhere…
