As I connected with my dear feline companion this morning, I noticed the tell-tale signs of the changing of the fur. In the winter, she dons a thick coat I’ve termed ‘wooly mammoth’. It feels incredible to run your hands over, knowing her body innately understands what it needs in each season of life.
As I brush her from head to toe, I can see patches of the old, winter coat beginning to release. Somewhere inside, a message sent out that the light is changing, the temperature is slowly warming.
Time to let go.
Time to allow a new, sleek fur to emerge.
Her summer coat is beautiful. It shows off every spot and stripe of her markings. Highlights concentric rings on her tail and the orange glow of her ears.
Her sleek, summer fur also reveals the musculature underneath as she stealthily hunts insects on our back porch. Slinking and leaping, shaking off the winter hibernation for a more active, focused energy.
Each person experiences similar cycles. Periods of our life when we hunker down, go within and rest. Store some fatty reserves to get us through the darkness. Grow our own wooly mammoth fur to wrap around and nurture our soul.
