The reason I was confused is because you wrote that Jesus stated that to divorce is to commit adultery and to be in sin. I read the entire Bible several times and never read a passage of that nature, however that perspective is perpetuated not only by mega churches, but tiny and mid-sized churches as well. It’s a modern interpretation of the Bible that is damaging, can even be life threatening. Even if Jesus did say that, it was over 2,000 years ago. Times have changed and values have changed. People back then owned slaves and many women had zero rights, being owned by their husbands. Unfortunately, in fundamentalist religions now, that is still the case.

Again, the problem with modern Christianity is it’s trying to hold on (i.e. MAGA), to some imaginary time when all things were perfect and holy, if we just follow these teachings. By the way, anyone who’s not a Christian is an unbeliever, and will be condemned to hell.

As a spiritual teacher myself, I have a deep, strong connection to the divine, but it doesn’t look anything like what’s in the Bible, or the misogynistic, racist churches of today. The beliefs of which are not only perpetuated by male leaders, but so many of the women who attend these churches and who elected Donald Trump. Pointing the fingers at others in the religion (who have no desire to be self reflective) does no good, when the overall message of Christianity and centuries old power structure of the Christian church is toxic.
