The worst trauma for an empath is to be invalidated

Many sensitive and empathic souls have experienced deep trauma at some point in their life.

Abandonment, emotional, physical, sexual and mental abuse. These often leave a permanent mark, from which it’s totally possible to heal and even forgive, but never forget.

And unfortunately, other people who are not highly sensitive or empathic also have these types of experiences. Believe me, we’re not trying to corner the market.

What I’ve realized is there’s another type of trauma that may impact perceptive souls more than anything else.

Not being accepted or validated for our way of being.

Without moving into a victim mentality here, but instead just observing what’s come up over the past two weeks, those who navigate life more tuned-in are often viewed with distain, skepticism and outright disbelief.

Let’s look at some examples. I write on Quora, a place for people with questions to engage with those who wish to share their wisdom and ideas.

When looking over the growing number of questions about empath, I counted no less than eight responses that essentially told me who I am and what I experience is a complete fantasy. No more than a character on Star Trek. Something relegated to the category of science…
