This is not true for many people, including many young men. I would dare say, part of the ennui stems from the expectation that everyone must work for their survival, just to eat, have a shelter and pay for medical care. It’s been shown that the stress associated with being in survival mode is the same level of stress associated with going to war, except for many, there is no end in sight.

Our failing economy, and exploitative college and corporate systems, are a huge reason why our young people are jaded and checking out. They can’t afford to pay their huge student loans and they can’t find a position that pays equitably, which means they are choosing not to get married or have a family (which is a fine choice, unless you want those things but can’t afford them).

It’s male privilege to assume a good job is waiting for you, in many cases, it is not.
