We need to stifle unhealthy competition. Our world has too long been built upon the masculine stereotype of ‘survival of the fittest’ or push others down so you can rise. This has led to narcissistic, fascist leadership that perpetuates a sort of ‘Hunger Games’ scenario in society, which not only hurts men, but more so people of color and women.

Competition is not a natural function of masculinity, we need to debunk this myth and encourage all genders to engage in collaborative efforts. If all someone is chasing is a medal of ‘meritocracy’ they will find it to be as hollow as you suggest. Shift all that testosterone into protecting our planet, creating equitable systems for all people, feeding the billions who are hungry, slowing climate change, because this is the only home we have.

There are many important problems that men could be working on solutions for, but you’ve been enculturated by governments married to corporations to believe that individual exceptionalism, status and money is the primary focus.

It is not and many young people are beginning to (or they will soon), see beyond the hypocrisy of modern media and cultural propaganda.
