Well, as a part of the self-help industry, I can honestly state that you are right about many people in my field, and, everyone has to work to make sure they can eat. I don’t by any means propose that people should present themselves as something they are not (I actively preach against this), but we also live in a no-win economic system. One where the path to excessive or even moderate wealth is built on competition and exploitation of each other. While it would be nice for as many people who are creative to be able to make a living purely by writing what they want, it doesn’t calculate that way in late stage capitalism. Which is why I recently wrote a post about how to run a conscious business when you don’t believe in capitalism. From the outside, it looks super easy to be a coach, but six years in, I’m here to tell you it’s not. You work with a few great clients, help them shift into whatever transformation they need/want who believe in what you offer, while most people look at you with either skepticism or total distain because of a few bad actors. So exhausted from having to defend my career path….
