When people in your inner circle become a Trump supporter
It’s not so cut and dry
The events unfolding in the United States are not simply about politics, instead, they are revealing fundamental differences in the vision each person holds for what kind of future we are manifesting.
The recent insurrection at the U.S. Capital was a not-so-shocking example of the radical worldview some hold, and the lengths to which they are willing to go to enforce their will on everyone else.
When I see these behaviors, I’m very clear about where I stand. Our top priority must be equity, respect, and safety for all human beings. We must address massive inequalities in wealth and resources. Prejudice and oppression in all forms must stop. Black, brown, transgender, and gay people should have the right to engage fully and equally without the fear of losing their lives. These things are cut and dry.
Where the lines get blurred is when people in my inner circle revealed their support for Trump.
Until recently, I never heard them express a racist or sexist viewpoint (doesn’t mean they didn’t think it, just that they didn’t outright express it). What was so shocking to me was they had a huge influence on the formation of my character. They raised me to be kind, compassionate, inclusive, and actively encouraged…
