While this might be true for you, it is not true for everyone. I have self identified as an empath for nine years now, and the entire time I have been on a strong path of inner shadow work and healing. No by-passing in my world or using my empathy as an excuse.

Being an empath simply means that someone can sense shifts in mental, emotional, physical, environmental, collective or spiritual energy, it’s not a cop out for not ‘doing the work’.

And, just because I’ve done the work, doesn’t mean I can no longer get sense shifts in energy — it’s how my nervous system is wired. I know things about people that no one has told me, I connect with spiritus who passed on, I feel collective energy when there’s some type of world occurrence, without ever watching the news. I communicate with animals, have since I was a child.

Being an empath is not a problem or misdiagnosis, it’s a normal way of being for a minority of humans.

Some empaths are hyper-vigilent (a fear-based reactionary state) because of trauma, some used to be, but they aren’t any longer because they learned how to reframe situations and calm their nervous system and some empaths never were vigilent.

You get to choose how you identify, but articles like this are minimizing of empathic people and their experiences…
