What if you’ve always been bringing your best self?
Sometimes labeled an overachiever, I’ve always felt compelled to do one extra thing, pushing myself to manage one subtle detail others may have missed. To be honest, this long-standing pattern hasn’t been completely altruistic. Granted, my drive to achieve has led to some pretty incredible experiences — and for those, I’m grateful.
However, the need to prove myself has also funneled me into a lower-level sense of power and personal worth. When you hinge your inner value on achievements, it becomes an exercise in trying to fill a never-ending hollow pit. Always looking into the future, striving for the next new thing, is a two-sided coin.
Cultural messages state that those who are ambitious make it to the top. The heroes and heroines in our society are venerated, admired, valued.
Yet, the pressure of always performing, of being on, can feel absolutely debilitating. Do you know how hard it can be to make yourself stop and smell the roses? Even when you love the smell the roses.
The question arises, where do you strike the balance? When you step up to your full potential — allow the passionate and imaginative visionary inside you to run?
And when is it time to be content right here, right now? To simply breathe. Feel your feet contacting the earth. Close…
